What is Emotional intelligence and why is it the key skill for the future? 25.06.2020.

„Anybody can become angry - that is easy, but to be angry with the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose, and in the right way - that is not within everybody''s power and is not easy.“ Aristotle

The concept of emotional intelligence (EI) was defined by Peter Salloway and John Mayer in 1990. Five years later, the book with the same name, written by Daniel Goalman, became a world hit and brought emotional intelligence closer to a wider circle of people.

WHAT IS EI?

Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize and clearly identify emotions, understand them, control them and use them to express your own thoughts.

Emotional intelligence determines significantly the degree of success and quality of relationships we have with others, as well as how successful are we in business.

WHY IS EI IMPORTANT?

Emotional intelligence means success on two levels:

On a personal level:

  • We recognize and control our own emotions
  • We have the ability to motivate ourselves (despite difficulties and frustrations)

Relationships with others:

  • We recognize other people's emotions
  • We nurture healthy relationships with others

Emotional intelligence means being aware of our emotions and the way they affect our behavior, especially in interaction with other people. In short, people with high emotional intelligence tend to do better in life.
